The Old Fashioned Cocktail is built by first placing a sugar cube to an old fashioned glass (like a rocks glass used for Whisky) and then adding two to three dashes of orange bitters to it (plus a splash of water to help dissolve the sugar). The ingredients are then muddled to dissolve the sugar (in a similar way that you would mix ingredients in a pestle and mortar). The Whisky is then added and stirred gently before introducing a large cube to the glass. It’s typically garnished with orange peel or a cherry.

So, our variation to this recipe is to replace the sugar cube with a teaspoon of marmalade and add an equal quantity of LOS CAFETEROS Coffee Liqueur to it.

What you’ll need…

    • 30ml Whiskey
    • 30ml LOS CAFEREROS
    • 2 Dashes Orange Bitters
    • Heaped teaspoon of Bonne Maman Bitter Orange Marmalade
    • Orange to garnish

NOTE: Were using the Bonne Maman Bitter Orange Marmalade because it’s a high-quality marmalade that’s ‘less set’ than some of the cheaper brands and so it dissolves more easily. It also tastes great!

Glassware – Ideally an old fashioned glass or a rocks glass

How you build it…

  1. Add the marmalade to an old fashioned glass (or rocks glass) followed by two dashes of orange bitters (and a tiny amount of water) and mix together to form a paste.
  2. Now add the Whisky and LOS CAFETEROS Coffee Liqueur and mix gently with a cocktail spoon.
  3. Add the ice. One large cube is best because it will melt more slowly and so, will change the cocktail dilution more slowly. Give it a gentle stir and garnish with orange peel

It’s absolutely delicious – a fantastic balance of flavours!
