It is believed that the B-52 cocktail was named after the band The B-52’s, not the World War II bomber aircraft.
It’s basically a layered shot comprising of… coffee liqueur (we’re using LOS CAFETEROS coffee liqueur), Baileys Irish cream and Cointreau (or Grand Marnier).
The idea is to build the cocktail so that the ingredients separate into three distinct layers.
The B-52 can be built as a cocktail or a shot
What you’ll need…
- 1 part LOS CAFETEROS Coffee Liqueur
- 1 part Baileys Irish Cream
- 1 part Cointreau
Glassware – Use a shot glass (certainly for your first attempt)
How you build it…
Because you can’t add ice during the build, the best thing to do is to pop the three drinks bottles in the fridge overnight.
- Add one part LOS CAFETEROS
- Then, over the back of a small spoon, very carefully add the Baileys Irish Cream followed by, even more carefully, the Cointreau.
Difficulty level… High
It’s tricky to keep the ingredients from blending. The image is from our first attempt but after four more goes at it, it didn’t get any better! It’s difficult to get the separation visually but you do get the separation in the taste.
